Measurements with force sensors

Defined load introduction ratios are important for accuracy when measuring with force transducers. If possible, the force to be measured must be introduced along a line of action designed for this purpose. The force transducer must also be placed on a sufficiently straight, sufficiently hardened and unyielding surface. These prerequisites are important so that the characteristic value does not change and the reproducibility and load capacity are not affected. Decisive for the quality of the measurement result is a force application that ensures defined force application ratios and, as far as possible, does not transmit external forces into the force sensor. The reproducibility describes the accuracy of the sensor when the mounting position is changed. The maximum difference between the output signals at the same force from several measurement series in different installation positions is determined. Frequently, a point or button-shaped force application is used for the measurement of compressive forces. In order to measure compressive as well as tensile loads, threaded or so-called threaded bolts are usually used. The force is also introduced via these. Not only the force acting on the sensor is decisive for the selection of the suitable force sensor. The different conditions resulting from the applications are responsible for the design of the sensor.
